Leading a new way of brewing

Booster is a revolutionary way to brew coffee; it's a tool used in flat-bottomed filter cups that increases extraction rates and speeds up flow.

No need to replace the filter cup; simply add a booster under the filter paper.

By placing it between the filter paper and the filter cup, the contact points are greatly increased, which is exactly where we want most of the coffee to flow through the filter paper. This increases the flow rate in a very uniform way, improves the extraction rate, and avoids channeling effects.

Even at very high extraction rates, the brewed coffee has no bitterness or dryness, allowing you to grind it finer for a sweeter, richer, and better coffee.

Booster was developed by Sitarist and Matt Winton (2021 World Coffee Brewing Championship winner) to achieve the optimal ratio and pattern of contact surface to free space.

Details

Suitable for flat-bottomed filter cups with a 45 mm diameter bottom (most flat-bottomed filter cups, such as Orea V3, Kalita 155 and 185, Fellow, ...) can be used with any flat-bottomed filter paper.

Material: AISI 304 stainless steel, food-grade gold plating

Individually packaged. The packaging is made of organic, recyclable, and compostable paper materials.

How to use

Wash with neutral detergent and hot water before first use.

How to use Booster for brewing

  1. Place the booster into the flat-bottomed filter cup, ensuring it is positioned horizontally and flat on the bottom or in the bottom recess, parallel to the bottom of the filter cup.
  2. Place the coffee filter paper into the filter cup.
  3. Rinse the filter paper, ensuring the bottom of the filter paper is in contact with the booster.
  4. Simply add coffee powder and brew.

How to clean

After brewing, discard the filter paper, then rinse the filter cup with hot water, and finally let it cool naturally at room temperature before washing it with dish soap.

More details

Booster is the result of more than a year of research and development by Sibarist and Matt Winton. They conducted extensive testing and continuously improved the size, diameter and material of the pores to obtain the best version, so as to achieve the most uniform flow and enhance the extraction effect of each brew.

Matte : "When I first started using a flat-bottomed filter cup, I never got the finely ground, highly extracted brewing results that others described—they were always bitter—and I didn't understand why. I asked many people, and someone told me that Johnathon Gagne mentioned in an article placing a mesh screen under the filter paper of the Stagg Dripper. So I decided to try this method and was amazed by the changes it brought! Eventually, I started testing the diameter and pore size of the mesh screen and realized that the magic of this technique wasn't in placing the filter paper on the filter cup, but in increasing the contact points between the filter paper and the mesh bottom, thereby increasing the flow rate."

We've discovered a great mesh strainer size that significantly increases flow rate and eliminates clogging when brewing high-density, light roast coffee! Yes, now I'm able to brew as others have suggested without getting bitter results like before, because the flow is more even, faster, and less clogged!

I now use this mesh screen on all my flat-bottomed filter cups, including Orea, Stagg, Kalita, and April, to fully open the flow and provide consistent, non-clogging results! I've tested it with Booster and different types of filter paper, including Kalita, Sibarist FAST, Sibarist B3, and April. It significantly improves the filter cup performance in all of these cases.

Even when we use the no-by-pass brewing method—which involves a relatively slower flow rate and longer brewing time—the final brewing result is still not bitter; it simply results in a higher extraction rate without any blockage or uneven extraction!
