OREA pioneered the "low bypass" brewing method, a technology first applied to the OREA V2 filter in 2021. We found that reducing bypass significantly improves the coffee's flavor, resulting in a sweeter taste, purer acidity, and a more consistent mouthfeel. Building on this, we aim to create a zero bypass filter that brews coffee in our ideal way—fast, simple, sweet, and balanced. It has a juicy, fruity flavor and excellent clarity. Ultimately, OREA launched the world's first fast zero-edge-penetration coffee filter. Its design concept is the same as all our other filter cups, but at the same time, it has the rich flavor and stability brought by zero-edge-penetration extraction.

The perfect coffee filter must evolve perfectly. Everything from the base diameter and brew chamber height to the robust construction, airflow, and compatibility with future accessories is crucial. The Z1 coffee filter features a low-profile brew chamber design that ensures the right coffee grounds thickness and minimizes stirring for a fast and consistent brew. OREA's signature base and ample space around the Melodrip ensure smooth airflow and prevent airlocks. The filter is made of a transparent and heat-resistant material with an extra-thickness to effectively lock in energy (temperature). The secure mounting is robust and compatible with other devices, such as the Hario Switch. OREA poured all its experience into creating this high-performance coffee filter.

SIMPLE is simple and easy to use.
The perfect coffee filter must be simple to use. The filter paper inserts easily, without pre-wetting or any tedious preparation. Grind, pour, and attach the Melodrip—the rest is entirely up to you. You don't even need a pour-over kettle, and without a bypass/through, it's difficult to brew a bad cup of coffee. Cleaning is also a breeze—simply unscrew the body, empty the coffee pouch, and rinse under running water—it's that simple. You can try the two simple brewing recipes provided, or experiment with more complex ones—how you enjoy this exquisite coffee filter is entirely up to you.
ZERO BYPASS Zero Edge Wear
Bypassing isn't a fatal extraction flaw, but it's certainly not ideal. OREA gained prominence back in 2021 with its low-side-through extraction in the V2 filter, a concept subsequently adopted for the V3 and V4. Research shows that reducing side-through/bypassing results in a fuller, richer, and more flavorful coffee. Bypassing refers to water naturally flowing along the path of least resistance, rather than flowing through the coffee grounds and leaking out through the gaps between the filter and the filter paper in a traditional coffee filter. This low extraction rate ultimately results in a bitter, astringent, dry, and hollow mouthfeel in the coffee.
TASTIER is even more delicious
Imagine you're baking an apple pie, but 10% of the apples are undercooked and 60% are overcooked. The pie might taste alright, even interesting sometimes, but the overall flavor will be a bit odd. The same applies to bypass extraction; it extracts a large amount of negative components. Furthermore, to achieve the same level of extraction, it means we must over-extract the remaining coffee components to achieve a satisfactory extraction and compensate for the losses caused by bypass extraction. Brewing methods that avoid bypass extraction significantly reduce this imbalance, amplify the coffee's strengths, and produce coffee with less astringency, lower dryness, purer acidity, and clearer flavor.

Traditional non-bypass filters are known for their slow speed. We're not exactly patient people—watching six or eight minutes of dripping coffee isn't our style. We pioneered the era of fast, flat-bottomed filters, making the old-fashioned ones look incredibly retro.
